Package Exports
This package does not declare an exports field, so the exports above have been automatically detected and optimized by JSPM instead. If any package subpath is missing, it is recommended to post an issue to the original package (storybook-mcp-server) to support the "exports" field. If that is not possible, create a JSPM override to customize the exports field for this package.

📚 Storybook MCP Server
A TypeScript MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that provides comprehensive access to Storybook instances. This server enables AI assistants to interact with Storybook components, stories, and capture screenshots.
✨ Features
- 🧩 List Components: Get all available components in your Storybook instance
- 📖 List Stories: Retrieve all stories, with optional filtering by component
- 🔍 Get Story Details: Access detailed information about specific stories including parameters and args
- 🎯 Extract Component Props: Get complete prop definitions and arg types for components
- 📸 Capture Screenshots: Take screenshots of individual stories or all stories with customizable viewports
- 📱 Multi-viewport Support: Capture screenshots across different screen sizes
🚀 Installation
Using with Claude Desktop
Install the MCP server via npm:
npm install -g storybook-mcp-server
Or clone and build locally:
git clone https://github.com/stefanoamorelli/storybook-mcp-server.git cd storybook-mcp-server npm install npm run build
Configure Claude Desktop: Add the following to your Claude Desktop MCP settings:
{ "mcpServers": { "storybook": { "command": "npx", "args": ["storybook-mcp-server"], "env": { "STORYBOOK_URL": "http://localhost:6006" } } } }
Or if installed locally, use the full path:
{ "mcpServers": { "storybook": { "command": "node", "args": ["/path/to/storybook-mcp-server/dist/index.js"], "env": { "STORYBOOK_URL": "http://localhost:6006" } } } }
Prerequisites for Screenshots
If you want to use the screenshot functionality, Puppeteer requires Chrome/Chromium. When you first run the screenshot command, Puppeteer will automatically download a compatible version of Chromium.
Manual Chrome Installation (optional):
- macOS: Download from Google Chrome
- Linux:
# Ubuntu/Debian sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install -y chromium-browser # Fedora sudo dnf install chromium
- Windows: Download from Google Chrome
Note: Puppeteer will handle Chrome/Chromium automatically, so manual installation is typically not required.
📋 Usage
Once configured in Claude Desktop, the MCP server will automatically connect to your Storybook instance. Make sure your Storybook is running before using the tools:
# Start your Storybook instance (in your project directory)
npm run storybook
# or
yarn storybook
Configuration Options
You can customize the server behavior through environment variables in your Claude Desktop MCP configuration:
{
"mcpServers": {
"storybook": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["storybook-mcp-server"],
"env": {
"STORYBOOK_URL": "http://localhost:9009",
"OUTPUT_DIR": "./my-screenshots",
"LOG_LEVEL": "debug"
}
}
}
}
Command Line Options
--storybook-url
,-url
: URL of the Storybook instance (default: http://localhost:6006)--output-dir
,-output
